Hi everyone! It’s no secret that I am all about using hot tools to do my hair. Without my straightener or curling iron I’d probably never wear my hair down (because it is a giant frizzy curly mess). But all the heat can take a toll on your pretty locks. I’ve got the secret(s) to keeping your hair as healthy as can be in between your cuts and colors without having to buy deep conditioning treatments.
First of all, you need the right hair brushes. When you first get out of the shower and want to detangle your hair, you are not supposed to use a brush, rather, you’re supposed to use a comb. This is to cause less damage to your hair in the detangling process. However, I’ve come across the greatest brush ever that you can use instead of a comb, the Wet brush. That is safe to use on your hair when wet because it won’t damage it. And, it works so much better than a comb. I love mine so much I even got a mini version to take with me to the beach or when I’m by the pool! You also need a good brush to blow dry your hair with. I love a rounded square instead of an entirely round brush. It makes it easier for me to make sure I’m not over curling my hair when trying to blow it dry straight but I think it comes down to personal preference here.
Secondly, its all about the products you use on your hair prior to styling. Once I’m out of the shower and my hair isn’t soaking wet anymore, I put about a nickel size of the bumble and bumble’s mending complex and focus on the ends of my hair. This is to try and repair any split ends I may already have and prevent future ones. Next I put about a pea size of the moroccan oil smooth lotion in my hand. I then rub my hands together and flip my head over. Once I flip, I gently run my fingers through my hair, careful not to grab too hard because if I do, then too much product is applied to one section of my hair and it tends to look greasy. I use the smooth lotion to reduce my fly aways while I’m blowing it dry, reduce my frizz, and give my hair a nice little shine to it! After I’ve put both the mending complex and smooth lotion in my hair, I blow it dry. After it’s dry I either run my straightener through it because hey, nobody’s perfect as blow drying their hair (well at least not me) or I curl it. When I curl it I make sure to use my absolute favorite styling sprays: texture takeover and workable wear. I spray workable wear on my hair and then use my curling wand to give me nice beachy curls. Once I’m done, I flip my head over and spray with texture takeover to ensure big hair (like Jessie James Decker) thats not crunchy or rough feeling.
Next, I make sure I buy good quality straighteners and curling wands. My favorite company is babyliss. I have my straighter, curling iron and curling wand from them. They aren’t super expensive (well for the quality you’re getting they aren’t), they last a long time, and because they’re made well, are too hard on your hair. All heat damages your hair but if the tools you’re using are made with good quality materials, it’ll help your hair out. I have this straightener, this 1 inch curing iron and this tapered curling wand that goes from 1 1/4 inches to 3/4 inch.
Lastly, your hair needs vitamins too. I like hairburst vitamins. I’m going to be honest with you, they don’t have the best taste to them, but they’re full of all thefts vitamins to keep your hair healthy and growing. It’s full of vitamins that are direct towards hair growth (Biotin, MSM, Collagen, BCAA’s & Silica), hair health (Selenium, Zinc, Hyaluronic acid, calcium & folic acid), vitamins that are good for your body in general (Advanced B vitamins complex & Vitamin A, C & D), and they’re all natural with nothing artificial in them! I’ve noticed a major difference in my hair since taking them. It grows faster and feels thicker! I take two in the morning when I’m getting ready.
And those are my secrets to healthy hair! I hope they help you out as much as they’ve helped me!
Thanks for stopping by! XO
