Hi all and happy Tuesday! Today I’m going to get a little more personal with you on the blog. If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen my Instagram story talking about this already. But right now I’m not currently happy with my smile. Yes I did have braces for 3 1/2 years when I was younger to fix my smile (and the awkward photos that came along with them) and it came out perfect. Unfortunately, when I went away to college, I stopped wearing my retainers and eventually lost them all together. And with the loss of my retainers came the loss of my perfect smile.
My smile is something that I am always self conscious about. My teeth have shifted and I now feel like I’m getting a snaggletooth and my bottom front teeth are not straight at all. I always toyed with the idea of fixing my teeth again but the cost associated with them was so high that that dream had to stay a dream. I also then moved across the country and never wanted to search for a new orthodontist to help me fix my teeth.
And then I heard about Smile Direct Club! Smile Direct Club is a much more affordable way to fix your smile and there’s a way to do it without having to leave the comfort of your own home! Here’s how it works: You can either order you own at home impression kit or go to one of their locations to get a 3D scan of your smile. They then create a custom treatment plan and the invisible aligners get delivered right to your door! And the best part, the cost is WAY less expensive than going to an orthodontist!
Thanks to the generous people at Smile Direct Club, they sent me an impression kit and gave me a promo code so you can get 50% off your impression kit or a free 3D scan! You just have to use my code BRITTANISMILES!
Here’s how the at home impression kit works. They send you this grey and purple putty that you have to mix together to put in the trays, 2 trays to get impressions in, gloves, and a smile stretcher. The original trays that came in my kit were a little too big for my teeth so I just let them know and they quickly sent out a new set that worked perfect!
Getting the impressions is a time sensitive task. I kind of felt like I was on a game show when I was making mine. You have 60 seconds to mix the two putty’s together, roll the blended putty into a 4 inch cylinder, put that cylinder in the tray and get the tray in your mouth. Matt was laughing at me while taking the pictures because I looked funny but it is so worth it! Also, be prepared that when you take the impression mold out of your mouth you will drool so make sure you have a towel ready!
You create the impressions four times total, twice on your top teeth and twice on your bottom teeth. Make sure that you’ve brushed and flossed your teeth before you do your impressions so they can get an accurate impression of your clean teeth! Don’t worry if you don’t get some of the impressions exactly perfect, that’s why you do multiple impressions.
After you’re done with your impressions you use the smile stretcher to take pictures of your mouth to also give to them. This assists them in getting a better idea of what your smile looks like since you aren’t there in person getting the treatment done.
I just popped my impressions in the mail and can’t wait to get my treatment plan back and get started. Let me know if you order your own impression kit or set up a 3D scan! Stay tuned for another blog post about my treatment once I get my aligners so I can let you know what I think of them!
Your smile looks gorgeous!!! Thanks for sharing 🙂
Omg! This sounds amazing and exactly what I need!!!!!
