Okay guys, real talk here. Before Matt and I moved in together about a year and a half ago, I had all these dreams about how amazing it would be. I expected everything to be mostly sunshine and rainbows. In reality, that’s not the case at all. Let me start by saying that I love living with Matt! I’m so happy we took that next step in our relationship! However, living with your significant other really shows you a whole new world.
Her: I absolutely love having decorative pillows on our bed! I spent hours and hours searching for the perfect bedding. Luckily I found exactly what I was looking for from Macy’s Hotel Collection. When I make the bed every morning I get so happy because I am obsessed with how perfect all the shams and pillows look together on the bed! Matt hates all the pillows because he thinks we have too many. We only have 5 decorative pillows on top of the 4 we sleep with. I could have gotten more but I think it’s the perfect amount!
Him: I hate the pillows. We can keep them under the condition that we store them in space bags, under the bed, permanently..
Washing The Dishes:
Her: I am the master chef in this relationship and Matt is our self-proclaimed grill master. We never grill during the week so I’m the one who cooks dinner every night. After working all day, coming home and cooking dinner, I don’t think I should be the one stuck also cleaning the dishes. Our apartment doesn’t have a dish washer, it’s one of my biggest complaints I have about our place (besides the fact we don’t have air conditioning). I usually joke around with people when they find out we don’t have one and say something like “meet the dishwasher” while pointing at myself. All jokes aside, sometimes I just wish Matt would clean the dishes instead of his usual “but you’re so good at it babe!” response that I get. Doesn’t have to be all the time but a few times a week would be nice (*hint hint*).
Him: Paper plates. Plastic utensils. Problem solved..
Her: I don’t think I’m a dirty person. I make sure the bed is made every day, my dirty clothes go in the hamper, and I don’t like going more than a week without cleaning the apartment/doing laundry. Matt on the other hand is OCD! Yup thats right, you probably thought I was going to say he was messy. He is, in fact, the opposite of messy. To him, everything has a place and everything must always be in its proper place. If I had a dollar for every time he said to me either “babe your clothes need to go completely in the hamper, you left part of it hanging over it” or “babe one of your hangers was sticking up again” I swear I’d be rich!
Him: I don’t understand why it’s so difficult for her to put things away. When you’re done using something, put it back where it belongs..
Her: Okay let me start by saying that this one is not my fault! I’m a girl with thick hair and a lot of it. I can’t help that I shed a lot! I can be doing nothing and hair will fall out of my head. Naturally, that means it ends up all over our apartment. It is especially bad in our bathroom since that’s where I do my hair everyday. The maintenance men in our building know who I am solely because of the amount of times they’ve had to come unclog the drains in our bathroom. Matt can’t stand that my hair is all over the place. He always tells me we could make wigs out of all the hair that falls out of my head and asks how I’m not bald. But give me a break! This one is out of my control. At least I’m not the one who leaves a sink full of hair from shaving their beard a few times a week. (Though I will say he has been much better about washing out the sink full of hair after the million and two times I’ve ask him, thanks for listening boo!)
Him: Britt’s hair is everywhere, all the time. I even find small piles of it on our kitchen floor. How about cleaning the apartment daily..
What To Watch On TV:
Her: We don’t have cable so we are always finding something new to watch on Netflix, Hulu, or HBO Go. The problem is finding something that we both want to watch. Like many, I love reality TV shows. Gimme all the Real Housewives, Kardashians, Total Divas, and Pump Rules. Matt hates all of those shows! In fact, he refuses to watch any of them with me. He tells me I’m losing brain cells whenever I watch an episode and he can’t be bothered to watch. So this girl is stuck binge watching those shows while he’s asleep or at the gym. Lately, we’ve been having a hard time finding shows we both like to watch and end up just watching YouTube videos on Matts phone (that he picks out). So, if you have any show suggestions, please let us know because we’re running out of things to watch!
Him: I lose brain cells by the minute when her shows are on. No other words to describe them..
What Time To Wake Up On The Weekends:
Her: I am NOT a morning person at all. I never have been and I highly doubt I ever will be. Matt on the other hand is very much a morning person. On the weekends, sleeping in to him is waking up at 8:30 am. That is far too early in my book, which is of course unacceptable to Matt. He loves to be a needy, chatty Cathy and bug me until I get up. It is so amusing to him to annoy me until I get out of bed. He has the cutest laugh and smile on his face while he does it which is probably why I let him continue to do it all the time. One of these days maybe I’ll get to sleep in until 10 (is that too much to ask?!).
Him: It’s 8:00, the sun is up, time to start the day. It’s as simple as that..
I hope you enjoyed our annoying things that happen when you live with your significant other! At the end of the day, we’ve learned to love the cute annoyances we share. Nobody’s perfect and if you can laugh at yourself and know your faults, embrace them! Living together is all about compromise, if you can do that, you’ll be able to successfully co-habitate. If you live with your significant other, comment and let me know what are some things they do that annoys you?
